Inverness, Lochness and Nairn

Inverness, the Capital city of The Highlands, has much of interest in terms of culture and history and it's position is ideal for reaching a large part of the rest of the Highlands, earning it the name "Gateway to The Highlands". In the East of this region, there are many ancient historical sites such as standing stones, and the Burial Cairns at Clava. A boat trip in the Moray Firth will give you the chance to see Britain's Northern most dolphin colony.

Heading South and West from the more gentle topography of the East, you'll find the mountains and the beautiful Glens of Strathfarrar and Glen Affric, with their ancient Caledonian Forests. Then along the impressive Loch Ness to to the picturesque village of Fort Augustus in the centre of the Great Glen, where a series of locks represents the Caledonian Canal continuing it's journey from Inverness to the West Coast .

It is a region of the Highlands with a great deal of variety within a small area, and something for everyone.
